Homeschool Convention

Attending a home school convention is very helpful for parents and students alike. Homes chooling your child is done for a variety of personal reasons but with the common goal of educating the child as well as possible. Ideas on the different ways to approach home schooling your children will be in abundance at a home school convention, which allows the parent to see and hear new ideas on the topic and how well it has worked (or failed) for others.

Attending a home school convention calls for planning in order to get the most out of the experience. If you plan to purchase school supplies, there is probably no bigger variety then what you will find at a convention, but it is best to make a list of what you really need. If you can afford it you can always buy a few items that are extras. You may need to resist the temptation to buy many items that you don't really need in the long run, because there will be so much offered. Making a list will help you keep track of the supplies you actually have to have.

While attending a home school convention in which there will be a large number of people, it's nice to have someone along with you to help carry books, etc. Most conventions welcome children, so bringing along at least an older child may help immensely. If you are at a very large home school convention you may want to ask for directions on how to get to the supplies you are there to purchase. There are usually maps available at the door for the extra large conventions.

If a list is available of the featured speakers, it is a good idea to check the list and see which topic each person will be speaking/lecturing about. They will probably all be helpful topics, but if you are in need of advise or new ideas on one particular aspect of home schooling, it would be a waste to miss a lecture on something you really need to hear. Home school conventions can be a great source of inspiration and encouragement, so listening to the lectures might be the perfect "pick me up" you need to be successful at it.
